Springvale Floorshield has been providing the effective, efficient and cost-effective solution to insulating a wide variety of solid and suspended floor constructions for decades, making substantial contributions to energy efficiency.
An expanded polystyrene rigid insulation board, it is available in original white EPS or as Platinum, to provide even higher insulation values.
Platinum Floorshield is an EPS board which incorporates a graphite component called Neopor®, manufactured by BASF, to provide significantly improved thermal insulation performance, for example, to achieve higher levels of the Code for Sustainable Homes or just to improve SAP ratings.
Floorshield products are light and easy-to-handle and can be fitted simply in domestic, commercial and industrial ground floor applications. Floorshield is suitable for use in solid concrete floors above or below the ground bearing slab; above a suspended beam and block floor; within a suspended timber floor and below under floor heating systems.
The inherent insulation and compressive strength properties of this versatile material make it the most cost-effective loadbearing insulant for floor construction, with a compressive strength at 1% compression of 21 kPa. Springvale Floorshield products are the ideal solution for domestic applications.
Providing excellent thermal insulation properties, Floorshield and Platinum Floorshield reduce heat loss, conserve energy and can be used in conjunction with other products in Springvale’s Shield range to assist compliance with the Code for Sustainable Homes.
Manufactured in a range of thicknesses, enabling appropriate U-values to be achieved, they are approved by the British Board of Agreement and are available through insulation distributors and builders merchants throughout the UK.
Floorshield is available in 4 grades: EPS 70, EPS 100, EPS 150 and EPS 200 and Platinum Floorshield in 2 grades: EPS 70 and EPS 100, depending on the compressive strength requirements of the insulation.
Floorshield and Platinum Floorshield have been awarded BBA certificate No: 91/2568. The products are manufactured to the requirements of BS EN 13163:2001 and under an ISO 9001:2000 approved quality management system.
The environmental integrity of Springvale Floorshield products is exceptional:
The thermal insulation properties of Springvale Floorshield products will remain effective for the life of the building. The cells in the board contain air, ensuring consistent performance throughout the lifetime of the products.
They are dimensionally stable products, which are resistant to attack from bacteria, moulds and fungi, and will not provide nutrient value for insects or vermin. They are also non-toxic and non-irritant.
Floorshield and Platinum Floorshield can be laid in damp conditions without compromising their performance or longevity.
A finished concrete floor containing Springvale Floorshield products can be expected to be classified as Euroclass B.
The Guideline U-value for a ground floor in accordance with Approved Document Part L is 0.22 W/m2K. Pre and Post construction SAP calculations are required to ensure compliance. This is a service that Springvale's Technical Department will be delighted to carry out on your behalf. For more information visit www.sapsonline.co.uk
Floorshield products should be described in specifications as: The floor insulation shall be Floorshield/Platinum Floorshield, EPS _____, _____mm thick, manufactured to BS EN 13163 by Springvale EPS Ltd. BBA approved expanded polystyrene boards (certificate no.91/2568) to be installed according to Springvale's instructions.

EPS 70 grade is for general and mainly domestic applications. If yours is a commercial or industrial project, you may need to use one of our higher specification products (EPS 100, EPS 150, EPS 200)
Packs of Floorshield and Platinum Floorshield are delivered to site wrapped in polythene. Store panels in their original packaging, under cover and protected from direct sunlight. Keep boards above ground level and out of contact with solvents and materials containing volatile organic compounds such as coal tar, pitch or creosote. Do not expose to naked flame or other ignition sources during storage or installation.
Do not use Floorshield or Platinum Floorshield boards in direct contact with PVC – sheathed electrical cables or hot water pipes. Electrical cables should be enclosed in suitable conduit.
The products are chemically inert and safe to use.
